Action

I very much enjoy the physical aspect of painting. The action of sticking my brush in a container of paint and moving it around on the surface is extremely satisfying. Working on a large surface also creates a physical connection to the painting because I am using my body movements as a tool to keep the painting open and full of energy. I make a mark and respond to it, then I step back and analyze what I have done and then respond again. This cycle will continue until I feel like the painting doesn’t need another shape, line or color. The action of painting is so exhilarating for me that one of the hardest things is to know when to stop. So to prevent over working a painting I’ll have multiple paintings going at one time to allow some distance between decisions.
