Hello everyone! Hope your week is going well!
This semester I’ve been taking Figure Drawing 1 as part of my Illustration major, and I can say that even though we are only a few weeks into the semester, I can definitely see my growth! I have been drawing people for as long as I can remember. I love drawing the figure because it can get into a lot of different positions. Not to mention, because it is challenging, I feel accomplished if I feel I have rendered something well!
These couple of classes though, I feel like I have really jumped up in terms of my personal growth. I think I’m really starting to get the hang of the lights and the shadows that can fall across someone’s body.
By coloring the paper entirely with charcoal first to get a good medium tone, then using the same charcoal to create the shadows, we can get a good idea of the composition. Finally we take a kneaded eraser and create the lights. This is my favorite part because it really adds dimension to it all.
I’m excited to see how far I will grow and I’ll keep you guys updated! Here’s some pics of what I’ve done so far!
