Color is everywhere and can be tricky to use and understand within the arts, but can also contribute so much to a work of art. Color can influence viewers emotionally like blue being calming or orange showing adventure, etc. To understand the use of color it is important to understand the color wheel, and to go even more in depth by using color theory. Some aspects of color include the color wheel, complementary colors, hue, and color theory. There are also groupings of color such as primary, secondary, and tertiary.

Color wheel: A good tool for artists to use and look at for color choices, like finding good color pairs.

Hue is another word for color and includes what you see on the color wheel. Complementary colors are colors that are directly across each other on the color wheel. Primary colors are red, blue, and yellow while secondary colors are purple, orange and green. Secondary colors are made by mixing primary colors. Finally tertiary colors are made by mixing primary and secondary colors together.

So a lot of this may seem easy and something people tend to overlook, but by knowing basic principle of color it makes picking color for works of art much easier in the end. There are so many color combinations that work well together, like using complementary, analogous (which means two colors next to each other on the color wheel), and other such color combinations. When using certain complementary color combinations there are measurements for how much to use of each color to make it appealing to the eye.
