Hello my friends! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed much deserved time off. Today, I thought we could talk about creative journaling. For those of you who have never heard of creative journaling, it is a type of art making, condensed in a journal, for mental clarity and organization. All you truly need to start this type of journal is the journal itself, a writing utensil, and some sort of glue or tape. Personally, I have a couple different creativity journals. One is solely for lists, such as to do, to buy, to keep track, a bucket list, etc. I decorate it with drawings, magazine clippings, mementos, and stickers. Another one of my journals is for traveling. I keep plane tickets, photos, receipts, and other memories from trips in it. Lastly, I have another journal for miscellaneous things such as drawings, paintings, and collages. This one is the most artistic journal I have.
Each journal has a therapeutic purpose to me. In regards to Art Therapy, creative journaling has become a very powerful tool, offering individuals a unique and accessible way to express emotions. This technique can reach into the unconscious mind and provide a non-verbal outlet for self-expression. This process can be especially therapeutic for individuals who find it difficult to articulate feelings through words alone.
One of the main benefits of creative journaling in art therapy is its ability to reduce stress and anxiety and promote mental organization. As we know, the act of putting thoughts and ideas onto paper can provide a sense of relief and clarity. In addition, creative journaling can aid in self-discovery and personal growth. By practicing this often, or even daily, people can identify patterns in their thoughts and behaviors and gain insight into personal challenges. Creative journaling can also enhance problem-solving skills and boost self-esteem. As someone watches their journal come to life, their confidence can grow stronger. Individuals that experiment with different media and creative techniques can develop a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in their ability to express themselves. Creative journaling can be a deeply grounding and mindful activity. The focus it requires encourages people to slow down and be present in the moment. This mindfulness can be particularly beneficial for individuals coping with trauma, depression, or stress.
That’s all for today! I hope you feel inspired to start a creativity journal soon! Happy journaling!
