Dabbling in Some Doodling

I don’t know about you, but this weather has me all sorts of confused. I barely remember what day it is half the time, and I work with 3 year olds all day so that’s definitely not helping. Anyway, I haven’t been in a huge creative mode to work on a month long project again, so instead I thought I would share some of my small creations that I make while I have some free time as this month goes on.

My previous project I challenged myself to stick to one medium for the whole project, and I decided to do the same for these quick pieces too!

This piece is just a composition that wasn’t planned and just laid out on the table.

I then chose a specific part of the composition to stick with and added grid lines to help.

With a quick simple sketch, I decided to use only water color for this piece.

The catch, I wouldn’t be outlining, I would try to stick with just strategically placing colors in spots that would help imply the rest of the composition. And this is what that turned out to be like.

I tried to use as little outlining as possible since it was a glass jar and water. This was definitely a challenge, but I actually enjoyed it. I got to stop thinking and just create, but also think in a way to make this visually appealing without overdoing the watercolor.

Overall this was a nice way to get back into watercolors, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think I’ll do some doodling again and you’ll just have to come back to see what I come up with! Maybe I’ll stick to the one medium per piece, and try to use different media to explore the “limits”.

Hopefully you’re enjoying your summer. Thanks for dabbling in my doodles with me!
