Dabbling

When you have a focus in a certain area of art, (for me of course, it’s painting) it can seem like that is the only area that matters to you. After all, all of your classes are probably geared towards that certain area, so you have no real reason to dabble in other areas like you might have when you were in high school.

This week, I want to challenge you to ‘dabble’ in something other than your major or your focus. Personally, over these past two weeks, I have found some time to experiment on the wheel in the ceramics room, draw some self portraits with some old charcoal sticks, and sketch out some graphic design logo ideas for a family member.

I think it’s so easy to forget that there are other types of art out there besides your major. But this is a shame, since playing around with other types of art can be really fun since it’s more for the experience, and you’re not concerned with making it look perfect. And even if you’re like me and are not the best at, say, pottery, you can still have fun dabbling!
