Hi, everyone! I cannot believe that we have reached the end of the semester already. It feels like it just started not that long ago. Since it is the end of the school year, I don’t have any new projects to share with you, so I thought I would share my favorite projects from this semester.
For the past few months, I have been writing about my packaging design projects and sharing my progress and mock-up photos. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed designing different package styles and experimenting with different ideas and concepts in this class. If I had to choose an overall favorite out of the projects I’ve done, I would choose my Scranton Sweets candy packaging.

I love the idea of creating a candy/chocolate line based on our local community in Scranton. It was really fun researching each location and learning more about Scranton’s history and how it came to be. I think the package design came out super clean, and the graphics are inviting and eye-catching, so much so that I adapted the idea for 11×14 posters.

This semester, I decided to take a Printmaking class that focused on etching. I have never taken a printmaking class before, so I really enjoyed learning about its processes and techniques. We experimented with several plate mediums, such as drypoint on plexiglass, acid etchings on zinc plates, and even Tetrapak. For my final print project, I wanted to experiment with etching on blank CDs and using them as a drypoint plate. At first, it was a bit of a struggle to carve into the plastic, and I really had to apply a lot of pressure to get deep lines. However, once the plate was done, the prints came out great. My idea was to draw some flowers and leaves to create a garden/wildflower look, but I wanted to leave an empty space so that I could write in different song lyrics.

I have had a great time in all my art and design classes this semester, and I love learning new things to further improve my skills. However, I am nearing the end of my time at Marywood, as I only have one semester left, so, although it is bittersweet, I look forward to another semester of design classes. I hope everyone has a great summer break, and I will see you all in my next post!
Thanks for reading!
