During the spring semester of the 24/25 school year, I took Digital Illustration. One of the projects we had to do during the class was to create environments for our story.
Personally, I have always favored environments over people, as drawing landscapes is where I started my art journey.
For the first landscape I did, I depicted my main character approaching the temple of the land’s goddess. To create that magical feel, I opted for a color palette that leaned towards soft purples and greens.

For my second environment, I went for a harsher feel. I showed sharp mountains bathed in a reddish light. The idea for this was to create a setting where my antagonist, Nyx, would reside. I also attempted to use a sense of scale in my composition, in order to make the mountains look far larger than the character.

Overall, I was happy with how both of these illustrations came out. Looking back on them a few months later, I do see where certain aspects could be improved, but that’s all a part of the process! I plan to continue improving my skills in regards to landscapes and environments, as that is the field that I eventually want to pursue as a career.

-Also, here is a bonus sketch of my antagonist, Nyx. I initially planned to finish this, but art block got the better of me 🙁
