Hi everyone, the weather gods have decided to grant me my wish of good weather and will be able to shoot soon! In the meantime, I will tell y’all why I dived into nature macro photography and explain how I took some shots. Here are some of the first shots I took after discovering what exactly macro photography is back in 2024 with my Canon camera.
For these photos, I took them both with my Canon 18-55mm lens with a Bower HD Close-UP +10 filter attachment. The purple dewy photo was captured early one morning where I loved how the dew was sitting on the field and decided to experiment with the filter attachment. With this attachment, I did have to use the manual focuser as the automatic would not capture the subject I would like. Looking back, I wish I had taken a bit more frames as the main purple flower photo wasn’t as clear as the second one.
For this daisy, I wanted to experiment with perspective so I tried to find the tallest daisy and laid down, camera facing up to achieve this photo.

This tulip macro was taken this past spring 2025 when I went to the Holland Tulip Festival with my Canon Macro Lens EF 100mm. I also used the manual focuser for this and had many different ideas on how to take these beautiful tulips. This photo stuck with me for its color, composition, and its depth of field. This specific patch of tulips was a bit small so I had to utilize perspective once again to make it appear this was a dense field of just red tulips.
This brings up another aspect of macro nature photography I enjoy. A photographer introduces a whole mini world we overlook in or everyday lives and can present it in their own ways. I tend to lean towards a more ethereal, delicate aesthetic to the macro photos I take with keeping some of the lens glare or keeping a brighter color palette. Going forward I hope to continue my macro journey and experimenting with different little creatures. Thank y’all for reading and see you in the next post, adíos!
