Explore the World of Glass

Spice up your artwork by experimenting with and exploring a whole new medium. Art museums are one way to find that new medium that interests you. By looking at other artists works, one of them might strike you with inspiration to create something using the same technique.

I had the chance to go to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York about two hours from here. The museum not only holds pieces of beautiful glass creations, but also the science behind glass and a chance to create your own glass sculpture. Glass was always a fascinating medium to me but always unreachable until now. With direction, I was able to make a small object out of glass. It was a great chance to experiment with a different medium I had always been interested in.

The museum itself held so many interesting glass figures, sculptures, and vases. There were contemporary pieces as well as the history of glass going back to the first formations of glass beads. All the glass there was unique and had various textures and shapes I didn’t even know were possible. It was amazing to see some of the glass pieces that contained figures inside of a glass ball. Some of the tools to make glass sculptures were on display as well.

I would definitely recommend this museum to anyone who is able to visit. There is so much work that has to be put into making glass figures and this museum shows the wide variety that can be made using this fascinating medium.
