Filling the Empty Bowls

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having an amazing, relaxing spring break. I know I am! I’m spending my break in Paris, France! Anyway, let’s get to the point. For the past three years, Marywood’s Art Honor Society Zeta Omicron Kappa Pi has been hosting a fundraiser called Empty Bowls. For those of you who have never heard of it before, I’ll break it down. So our members are each asked to throw/make as many ceramic bowls as they can, or at least stick to their pledge! Each bowl is completely handmade. It stars out as a ball of clay, gets thrown into a bowl, gets a foot trimmed onto it, gets bisque fired, gets glazed, and goes into the last firing! What a process! So after all of these bowls are completed, we bring them to downtown Scranton on the First Friday in Ma, to sell them! All of the proceeds go to the Scranton Meals on Wheels foundation. It is such a fun evening, and has been very successful! This year we have set the goals high and we aim to make 300 bowls, and sell out! We will price the bowls from about $10-$15. When you purchase a bowl, you get a voucher for a free bowl of ice-cream (in a Styrofoam bowl).

We just started this process a week or so ago, and already have a massive amount of bowls done. I’ll most definitely be blogging about it more so keep a look out! Next time I’ll give you guys the final details, like our location! It’s a great cause, and a great way to showcase our students talents! Come buy a bowl!
