It’s been almost a full year since I’ve learned how to work with clay but this semester I’ve chosen to take it up again by taking Ceramics II. Getting back into something you haven’t done in over a year can be a bit of a challenge, especially when it comes to ceramics. Trying to recall all of the steps as well as what’s correct and incorrect is definitely not the easiest thing to do. At times I felt like I was just doing really poorly and that i wanted to give up on trying. However, I know I can only improve with lots and lots of practice.
Our first assignment is to perfect our ability to make a cylinder out of clay. While this might sound easy, for myself it has proven to be quite the challenge. By the end of class I felt much more successful in my endeavors than I thought I would be, which was a really great outcome. I really look forward to developing my skills and techniques further this upcoming semester.
