Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. For this week’s post, I’m excited to share updates on the commission I’m working on, results from the most recent glaze kiln, and, more specifically, an update on one of my past ceramics projects!
First, I’ve been slowly glazing the bowls for the commission I’m working on. I talked about my plans for the bowls in a previous post, but here’s a visual of one of the bowl styles completed.
I glazed one and fired it first to confirm the colors were correct and to have a result for my customer to approve before continuing. I’m glad I did that because there were a couple of changes I wanted to make for the rest of the bowls! Anyway, that’s the only one that’s completed, and I have at least 7 or 8 more to glaze. They have been taking a lot longer than I expected, but after seeing the first of the larger bowls come out of the glaze kiln, I think it will be worth it!
Next, the glaze kiln results! I’m pretty happy with what came out of the kiln, even though it wasn’t very much. Here are a couple of the highlights!

This license plate is absolutely adorable, and I’m so glad I made it. The only reason I made it was that we used it as a nameplate for the ceramic student studios during the senior show. Such a smart idea from one of my studio friends, and they all turned out great. For mine, I wanted it to look like a New York license plate because that’s where I’m from, but I honestly didn’t have much time. So, I did the outline and a font similar to the real thing, then added the lighthouses and sand dollars to make it my own. I think it turned out so cute, and I would love to make more of these in the future!
Next, this little bowl and pet food bowl turned out so cute! I just love the designs on these. I have a couple of other pieces with the dark blue lines, and I’m obsessed with how the lines just barely keep their distance from each other. I’ll definitely do both of these patterns again!

Finally, the most exciting update! I finally got to see my first lighthouse completed! For this first one, I wanted to try a simple glaze instead of painting it to look like a realistic lighthouse. After all, this was the first one, so I was okay with experimenting with it. I didn’t really know if it was going to look like I thought it would, but it honestly turned out even better. Here’s a look!
I really love the lighthouses, and I’m going to continue experimenting with them next semester in all kinds of ways. I have so many ideas and so much to do!
Well, that’s all I have for this week! There will definitely be more glaze kiln results in my next post, so stay tuned! Thank you all for reading! Stay creative 🙂
