Hi friends! I hope everyone’s summer is going well! I can’t believe our break is almost over—we’ll be back on campus before we know it! As summer quickly comes to an end, I’ve been trying to squeeze in as much art as possible. This week, I decided to repurpose an old slate sign.
My mom gave me this sign and told me to do whatever I wanted with it, so I chose to completely redo it. I started by painting the sign a light gray, which would serve as the background. Then, I traced the outline of a circle at the bottom and placed strips of tape radiating out from it. This formed the perfect little sunshine.
After that, I picked my colors—warmer tones for the sun to contrast the cooler-toned gray background. Once the rays were dry, I grabbed my all-time favorite writing utensil, posca paint markers, to add swirly designs to each ray. I outlined them for definition and then moved on to the scariest step: writing “hello sunshine.” I needed my handwriting to be just right. To my relief, the letters came out better than I expected!
I added some dots and lines to the words for extra flair, and just like that—it was finished! I ended up giving the sign back to my mom, and she was absolutely thrilled with how it turned out.
It felt so good to turn something old and plain into a cheerful piece of art. That’s all for today, friends! I hope you enjoyed reading!

Fantastic!! The colors are such that this piece can be put anywhere! Gotta love upcycling!!
LOVE IT!! Nice work upcycling 🙂
