Hello! For this post, I had originally planned to show some background art I had been working on for my comic, but I have decided to put that off to share a show I found recently that’s been really good so far from what I have watched. I had heard a little about this show coming out before, but never had high expectations for it.
I recently discovered a new anime that’s airing called Jaadugar: A Witch In Mongolia. It starts off in Tus, an ancient Iranian city and follows our main character: Sitara/Fatima, a slave. After Tus is attacked by the Mongolian Empire, she adopts the name Fatima. That’s all I know for the story so far. The show is based on real life historical events from the 1300s, which I find really interesting. I’m looking forward to discovering why the title is “A Witch In Magnolia”, and I get the feeling it won’t be actual witchcraft, but the way that others view her.
The thing that really caught my eye about this anime was the art style. It’s very simplified and the backgrounds use lots of texture. The simplified forms of the characters really contrasts the textured backgrounds and I really love it. The characters have no shading which really adds the the unique art style and doesn’t over complicate anything. I’m looking forward to future episodes and hope that if they do add any shading to characters, it’ll be for very dramatic moments to show increase the effect.
To commemorate my already growing love for this show, I did a little drawing of Sitara/Fatima!
