Journey to Art Therapy

As the semester begins and everything starts to settle, there is already one Art Therapy “experiential” done! Within my first graduate class in Art Therapy, we did one visual journey entry. Our journal class assignment today was to depict our individual journeys to art therapy. Whether it was what brought you to art therapy or your each own self-discovery through the subject, everyone’s journey reflection was amazing.

Every student took the half hour we were given to reflect, choose their medium, and concentrate on their journey. After our thirty minutes were up, students participated and explained to the class how their work represented their journey. There was a variety of:

  • Ink
  • Watercolor
  • Oil pastels
  • Chalk pastels
  • Mixed-media
  • Blackout poetry
  • Markers/Crayons

Here is my piece from class this morning!

After everyone explained, it made me realize how much I missed all of the art therapy things! I missed all of the different mediums you can choose from to use, the variety of projects everyone in the class create, and just the environment of the studio! I am happy to finally be back in the swing of things and be back in the studio with all of my classmates.
