Landscape Painting

For the past two classes in my painting 1 class we have been working on a landscape painting. This has been really challenging for me because I have never really been a fan of landscapes. I tend to choose subjects like portraits or animals because a like being able to focus heavily on the faces and use more simple backgrounds. Another reason that I don’t like landscape is because I am not very good with perspective. The measurements tend to get on my nerves and I can never seem to get them quite right.

While it was a difficult project for me, I think it was a really good way to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. I chose to paint the Shields building, so with a building taking up my entire composition I got lots of practice with perspective. The painting is not yet done, but below I have added possess pictures from the first two work days.
