Light and Shadow

For this week’s painting I decided to do a self-portrait with an interesting light source. I took a few pictures of my face with the lighting at different angles. I really liked having the light shine up at my face because it lit up the important areas. This helped me to isolate the features that I needed to focus on. I wouldn’t say that I am very skilled at painting faces so this was an easier way to approach a self-portrait. I also created another illusion by using red as my base color. It gives the painting an intense feeling to go along with the expression on my face. It actually reminds me of how the lighting appears when your in a red tent and everything is tinted red. This was painted with oils on wood.
