Last week, at my boyfriend’s indoor soccer game, I brought my sketchbook and ended up drawing more than watching the actual game. But I couldn’t help it…it was like all of those people were there to model for me. It was interesting to draw people in motion and in groups. You have to isolate the important information you are seeing to create an image that is plausible much faster then you would while drawing static figures. I was focusing on composition mostly. When I am bringing the figure into my work I have realized that my concern is how the figure fits in the space. I also enjoy finding shapes within the negative space around the figure. These paintings I created mostly from memory and my sketches. Since my boyfriend has a game each week I plan to keep this little series going. I am hoping to work out some color issues through doing these little paintings that will help me with my larger works.
