Last week, I made progress on creating a model of a large-scale form I want to include in my MFA show as a display for some smaller pieces. I ended up sketching a few ideas based on the shapes of materials I was already using for plaster casts, then got to building my favorite one out of plasticine, a type of modeling clay.

First, I heated up the plasticine with a hair dryer to make it more pliable, then pressed it into a mold to make the bottom (almost) perfectly round. Then I cut off excess material to make a 90 degree corner, and formed the top of the shape by hand. Finally, I cut a hole through the middle of the form using a plastic tube. Plasticine never fully dries, so if I need to make adjustments that will be possible. This may or may not be my final design, but I did promise pictures!
