Hi friends! I hope everyone is having a lovely semester so far! Today I thought it’d be fun to discuss some paintings I’ve made recently and why. To begin, painting has always been a huge passion of mine. As you may remember from my other posts, I am drawn to bright, vivid colors, and thick line work due to my visual impairment. These types of pieces are the most accessible to me, and I love when I am able to truly see a painting fully.
Painting #1: Teal Flowers
I made this painting about a week ago. I used Posca paint markers and acrylic paint on canvas. I wanted to make something abstract, yet identifiable. I made large, wobbly and unsymmetrical petals differing in values by adding black and white to a nice teal color. For the inside of the flowers, I used the same color of dark blue. I used posca paint pens (my personal favorite marker ever) to outline each flower in gold. I wanted this painting to convey the idea of being content and peaceful while in an uncertain situation. The flowers are wonky, but not all over the place. The petals are unique and not trying to be something they are not.
Painting #2: Happy Hippie
I painted this piece a while ago, but it remains one of my favorites. I used a circular canvas with acrylic paint and, no surprise, posca paint pens! I wanted to draw things that represent peace and happiness to me. I made everything bright and neon and used a white paint pen to outline everything. This made everything more visually accessible to me and helped it pop! I wanted this piece to overall be something uplifting and interesting. I loved the way it turned out. It’s a great decoration piece!
Painting #3: Heather’s commission
I made this piece over the summer for a dear friend of mine. She commissioned me to paint her a canvas with the words “if you love something, let it grow” painted on it. This is such a great quote that I had never heard before. I used acrylic paint, gouache paint, and of course, posca paint pens on canvas. She gave me creative freedom and requested that I include bright colors as well as flowers of any kind. I wanted this piece to be a tribute to her and her beautiful family, who I love so dearly. The piece came out exactly the way I hoped it would and I couldn’t be prouder of it!
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed looking through some recent commissions and pieces of mine!
