I’ve been brainstorming ideas for the Speedball New Impressions printmaking competition but as of right now I don’t really have much direction.
In order to more thoroughly gather my thoughts, I went back to read the competition details. There are 6 printmaking categories: Lithography, Screen Printing, Relief Printing, Etching, Monotype, and a Wildcard.
The only think I know for sure is that I will be making a relief print. I may try to make a print in one or two of the other categories but only if I have enough time!
I don’t know how many people enter the competition each year but each category will have 3 winners. I looked at past winners to get some inspiration.
The featured image on this post is the first place entry for the screen printing category; Natalie Millsap from Western Washington University.

The first place entry for the relief printing category was a linocut made by Victoria Trakas from the College of Charleston.

The first place entry for the monotype category was made by Emily Martin of Alfred University.

The first place entry for the intaglio/etching category was Tami Kuo from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

The first place entry for the lithography category was Amber Vasquez from the College of Charleston.
I still don’t know what I’ll be making but now I have a better idea of what the competition looks like.
