Natural Natural Wonders

Sue Jenkins, one of Marywood’s graphic design/photography professors, will be having a solo exhibition entitled Natural Natural Wonders. This exhibit is free and open to the public and the opening reception will run from 2-5pm at the Suraci gallery located on the 2nd floor of the Shields Center for Visual Arts. I had the pleasure of viewing Professor Jenkins’ artwork last semester during the Art Faculty Biennial exhibition. Her art often features digital collage prompted by unique ideas and I am eagerly awaiting to see her take on the natural world. Gallery Talk: February 2 • 2 p.m.

Solunar

In the Mahady gallery there will be a dual exhibition called Solunar featuring artwork from two of Marywood’s Art alumni, Eric Bussart and UNAPXLXGETIQ (Emmanuel Wisdom). Both are artist/muralists and feature their work throughout Pennsylvania. Wisdom is based in Philadelphia, having founded UNA Design Co. which aims to make creative solutions through the use of lettering. Bussart has done work in a variety of illustrative mediums. Notably, he has done several murals throughout Scranton, one being The Dream which was done in collaboration with Wisdom. The showing will be in Mahady Gallery and is free to the public. Gallery Talk: January 30 • 3 p.m.

I am excited to be attending both events and urge my artist and non-artist peers to do the same! Viewing galleries as an artist or otherwise can be quite therapeutic while simultaneously thought provoking. Attending is a great way to be supportive and gain a new perspective in a relaxed environment that encourages viewing the self expression and exploration of hard working artists. Natural Natural Wonders by Sue Jenkins

Exhibition Dates: January 28–March 10, 2023

Opening Reception: January 28 • 2–5 p.m.

Gallery Talk: February 2 • 2 p.m.

“Natural Natural Wonders” is a solo exhibition of new nature inspired mixed media and digital collage by Sue Jenkins. Works are colorful, at times abstract, with a sprinkling of mystery, a dash of solitude, and a touch of surrealist whimsy. Using elements like scanned objects, handmade marks, botanical illustrations, acrylic paints, and cut paper with her photos, the artist crafts richly layered nature inspired worlds filled with plants, animals, and vibrant color. Works on view include digital collage prints on canvas, poster prints, reproductions of works on paper, mixed media collage, mixed media on wood panels, and an art/poetry book reclamation project. Collectively the works echo the artist’s biophilic yearning to make work that inspires others to embrace earth and live in harmony with all of nature.

The artists have previously collaborated on the creation of a public art project, “The Dream,” which depicts Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., located at the intersection of Adams Avenue and Mulberry Street, Scranton, Pa.
