Painting on Shoes

Hi everyone, I’m planning a special surprise for my best friend for Christmas. I’ve seen the artwork other artists have made by painting on shoes, I thought it would be a perfect gift for Christmas. I have gathered up several pictures for reference.

For this project I have read many blogs detailing what supplies I would need. I am choosing to use acrylic paints for the shoes. One of the most important things to do before you start is to draw out your design on paper, then drawing on the shoes. Before painting, tap off areas where you don’t want paint on, like the soles of the shoes. Remove the shoe laces to give yourself more area to paint.

Once you start painting, make sure to use thin layers of paint until a layer of paint is covering the shoe. You can use markers like sharpies or microns to add line art or detail to your painting. Once it is done, it’s very important to seal the shoes you just painted from dirt and water. If you don’t your painted shoes could crack. I am using a scotchgard fabric and upholstery protector and a mod podge clear acrylic sealer to protect the paint on the shoe.

I will post pictures of the finished project soon. Is there anything that I have missed while explaining how to paint on shoes? Please share your pictures of your painted shoes.
