Painting Update

Hi, everyone! I hope your break is going well so far. For my post this week, I have a small update on the gouache painting I mentioned in my previous post. If you haven’t seen or read my last blog post, I talked about how I have been experimenting with gouache paints for the past few months. I shared some finished paintings from my experimentation, as well as progress photos of the painting I’m currently working on. This is the reference image and my first progress photo that I posted last week:

Since my last posting, I have made some more progress on this project. I added more detail and definition to the clouds in the sky to make them stand out a little more. My art teacher also had some metallic gouache paints that I added to the background to give it life and movement. This was the progress photo I took after I made those adjustments:

It’s not a drastic change from my first progress photo, but I think those small adjustments make a big difference to the overall composition. Once the background was finished, it was time to tackle the Ferris Wheel. I decided to draw it out on a piece of transfer paper first before putting it on the painting. After I finished drawing the Ferris Wheel and transferred it to paper, I started detailing the ride with Micron pens. However, I ran out of time last week before I could finish it, so I only have the outer edge of the Ferris Wheel completed.

I am extremely happy with how this project is coming along, and I can’t wait to finish it this week. Despite some struggles with the background and the wheel’s architecture, I am very impressed with my work on this painting. I absolutely loved every second of making this piece, and I’m excited to share it with you all when it is finished. Let me know your thoughts about my painting in the comments; I’m interested to see what you guys think!

Thanks for reading!
