This past Friday I was beyond fortunate to go on the Art department’s bus trip to Philadelphia! To start the trip off, I toured through the Philadelphia Museum with Dr. Irwin and Pam Parsons’ art history classes. I was dazzled greatly by their knowledge of European art. Unfortunately, I have yet to have an art history course with Dr. Irwin, therefore I was grateful to hear what she had to say about the paintings! I could really tell she was in her element speaking about the works.

After the tour with the art professors, I ventured off to see Marcel Duchamp’s work! As I wandered through to find his work, I came across works of Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet, whose works I saw in Paris over spring break. However, compared to Paris, the Philadelphia Museum was not as busy and loud. I had time to stand in front of Van Gogh’s and Monet’s pieces and really goggle and admire without having to shove through people or being shoved myself. I was in true “awe” in front of every painting and appreciated my time spent with two artist who I admire greatly in the art world.

However once, I reached Marcel Duchamp’s wing of the museum I was like a kid in a candy shop! I do not think I was ever that excited in my life! This was my first time seeing Duchamp’s work in person therefore my excitement was quite acceptable! Ever since I first learned about Duchamp all I ever wanted was to see his work. I nearly shredded tears of happiness when I saw The Large Glass/The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even standing before me in all its glory, free and tall!
