In my Graphic Design II class, we’ve been assigned to redesign the look of a nonprofit organization or charity of our choice. This involves new logos, letterheads, websites, and merchandise. I decided to choose an organization that I personally love, Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary. They’re a nonprofit that houses and finds foster homes for old dogs, since older dogs are not as easily adopted. They’re very active on social media and give the public a glimpse into the world of these dogs, and as an animal lover it just felt right to pick them.
So far, I’ve redesigned their logo and letterhead. Originally, their logo was a little tough to read, and the graphic wasn’t immediately distinguishable, which made the overall look confusing. With a font change, along with a few adjustments, the new logo was much more fitting for the organization.
This assignment has helped me realize that it’s really important for all kinds of companies to have a cohesive brand design that fits their purpose, and is widely understood. Even though it’s just for a class project, I’m really looking forward to continuing and seeing how much further I can push the look of this organization.
