Over Christmas break I introduced painting into my sketchbook. I’ve collaged in my sketchbook in the past but this seems to be more immediate. I can easily work out color or shape ideas so that I can record them. Your sketchbook is supposed to be like a stream of consciousness that you can refer to if needed. Since I am mostly painting in the studio I like having my sketchbook to look back at for ideas. Whenever I feel stuck I’ll just page through and hopefully come across a shape or color that I can elaborate on. I also find it interesting that I started working on both sides of the sketchbook.
