Sketchbook

For some reason, whenever I’m working in my sketchbook, I feel like I have to make whatever I’m drawing a complete picture, or a perfect little composition. Since I have this standard for myself, I sometimes don’t really draw in it unless I feel like the result will be anything of worth. THIS IS BAD. A sketchbook is just that; something that you should sketch in. And sometimes, it’s a very good thing to have an intricate, beautiful drawing. But unless you feel comfortable enough to just do little doodles around the whole thing, you won’t get as much drawing done. This summer, I’m going to be much less critical of my quick sketching. I want to be able to push away the idea that EVERYTHING I do has to have a purpose. Sometimes, drawing for drawing’s sake is good enough.
