Over Thanksgiving break, my parents came to Spain to visit with me for a week. Over the four day weekend, we drove to the south of Spain to visit Cordoba and Granada. There, we saw a ton of beautiful Eastern art, including the Mosque of Córdoba in Cordoba, and La Alhambra in Granada.
These trips were incredibly important to me, especially with my background in painting. Since I’m usually studying Western art, whether classical or modern, in school, I forget to give Eastern-inspired art the attention it deserves. This trip reminded me of how there is a whole different “world” of art out there that I have to learn from. In the mosque and the palaces of La Alhambra, I was surrounded by beautiful architecture that designed a harmonious space with its repetitive shapes, beautiful double arches, and textured ceilings.
