This painting was the result of a spray paint experiment. I was not familiar with using spray paint in my paintings so I was excited to be adding a new element. I painted the whole piece a neutral color and then used the spray paint so I can see how it reacts on canvas. This was an oil-based enamel spray paint so I had to use oil-based paint because acrylic would eventually chip off. By painting over top of the spray paint a deep space began to emerge. The spray paint did not have a clean line so it was creating a cloudy atmospheric pictorial space in comparison to the hard edge shapes that float over top. I think this effect is really interesting and I am curious to explore more ideas in relation to space with spray paint. I would definitely consider opening up this painting again and addressing some color issues but I am happy with it for now. It definitely opened up some new doors for me and my work.
