Student Spotlight: Nelly Martinez

Hi everyone! I am thrilled to be writing Student Spotlights again! This week, I am introducing Nelly Martinez. Nelly is the first person I interviewed that I didn’t know personally. So, it was exciting to get out of my comfort zone and learn about someone new and their art journey. I hope you enjoy Nelly and her work as much as I do!

Name: Nelly Martinez

Graduation Year: 2025

Major: Illustration

I am majoring in Art because…
I prefer to draw my emotions and opinions instead of using words.

The kinds of things that inspire me are…
My lack of inspiration, as at times I have too many ideas. It is just easier to draw with a calm head

My art favorite class so far was…
General Illustration I

When I am not in class…
I try to focus on the material and upcoming projects.

The coolest thing I have done at Marywood so far was…
Applying for work-study in the art galleries.

When I graduate…
I hope I will be able to create more art that others will be happy with.

I would recommend the Art program at Marywood because…
In general, a lot of the art professors are patient and understanding. They give good advice.

What excites me most about Art is…
The different ways someone can express themselves through their work. Even if they do not share a positive message.

I hope you enjoyed learning about Nelly, and her art work. Check out her pieces below! As always, it was a pleasure getting to know her and I am excited to write again soon! Thank you for reading! 🙂
