MEET REBECCA!
Rebecca is a Sophomore Illustration Major here in the Marywood Art Department! I interviewed her because of her interesting style and to learn more about her! Let’s get to know about Rebecca!
Name: Rebecca Klemovitch
Year of Graduation: Class of 2024
Major: Illustration
Minor(s): N/A
I am majoring in Art because… I have a passion for creating and expressing emotions through art. I love the ability of being able to create something new and unique that can express things as a visual without words
The kinds of things that inspire me are… My father, he plays a huge role in my inspiration for the arts. As a hobby my dad loves to oil paint. Watching him do that as a kid allowed me to see how fun and creative the arts were at a young age, and still inspires me to create beautiful works to this day!
My favorite art class so far was… It’s ironic that my favorite class so far was Painting I, because I am an illustration major. But this class had taught me much about patience, alongside spatial awareness. This class was extremely enjoyable, and had made me a better artist through working with a medium I had not been too familiar with, oil paint.
When I am not in class… I am either sketching in my notebook, or playing tons of volleyball. I am a bit of a sports head, and volleyball is one of my other biggest passions in life.
The coolest thing I have done at Marywood so far was… partake in my figure drawing class with live nude models. It is so beneficial as an artist to be able to experience the body in its natural form, and be able to create from it.
When I graduate… I plan to be an illustrator. I have no specific plans as to exactly how I want to start off my career, but I am interested in things such as fashion illustration, courtroom sketching, technical illustration, along with publishing book covers! I know drawing is something I’m passionate for, and in time I will decide on exactly what I am looking for within my career.
I would recommend the Art program at Marywood because… At Marywood they offer many great opportunities for an artist to learn and excel in one’s passions. It ranges from things such as set up still lives, to live models, and creative freedom. Marywood offers so many great professors to help achieve exactly who you want to become as an artist.
What excites me most about Art is… The idea of creating a visual in order to express a topic. Creating is so fun, along with exciting to be able to make a finished product that can express, influence, or represent something so deeply with just visuals.
What is your favorite medium and why? My favorite medium is pen and ink. I love this medium for many reasons. You can create thin and thick lines, or stippled and cross hatched dramatic pieces while using this. You can also layer things such as watercolor, or color pencil over the black pen and ink to add color to the piece, creating something entirely new!
Thank you guys for reading! I hope you liked getting to know Rebecca! I loved hearing from an illustration major for once! Stay tuned for our next student spotlight blog coming out in two weeks! Till next time!
