The Art of Understanding Art

Hello, everyone!

This week I am beginning another new book that I would like to share with you all. It’s titled The Art of Understanding Art: A New Perspective by Hugh Moss with illustrations by Peter Suart. This is another book that I picked up from the gift store at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, NY. It’s retailed for $15.95 and you can find it here on Amazon if you’re interested in a copy for yourself.

The back of the cover of the book reads “An original and thought-provoking new approach to understanding art, for collectors, connoisseurs, students and artists – and all those who like art, but are not quite sure how to respond to it.”

I selected this book because the further I get with the arts administration program, I keep seeing more things that I should be researching. When I first began the program, I figured it would be something that’s more black and white but in reality, managing art is just as much of a grey area as making art. There are all kinds of ethics, histories, practices, criticisms, and what seems like a plethora of undiscovered knowledge to me. So that’s why it’s become my new goal to began reading as much as I can about whatever I can to make myself as knowledgeable and well-rounded as I can be about art, managing art, preserving art, etc.

That being said, if you have any ideas or suggestions for great books or resources, feel free to leave me a comment below!

As always thank you for the read and feel free to ask any questions!
