What Does The Photograph Say?
The head honcho of photography at Marywood is Sam Olfano, he is to photography as Yoda from Star Wars is to the force. Yes he just loves that I have the students calling him affectionately “Yoda”. He makes us carry around a card that says SEE! FEEL! THINK!
SEE—See the light.
FEEL—What is the story? How does it make you feel? You have to say something with the photograph. He didn’t like the ‘oooooh its pretty’ descriptive term, you have to say why you think it is pretty.
THINK—What is your idea, what can you use to make it better (focal length, depth of field, point of view, etc.); what can you do in the darkroom to make it better?
This is what all the Professors are trying to get us to see before we take the picture.
This is so true! Don’t get me wrong I do LOVE the dark room, but trying to fix a print is a lot harder than trying to enhance a print.
Here are some of my first attempts, Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?
