Wrapping Ceramic

I’ve recently just finished a ceramic piece that I made for a client. She had a few rattle snake tails that she wanted wrapped around the neck of the vessel. I came up with a design a while back. Then I finished throwing and coil-building the piece. I wanted to make sure she liked it before I had it bisque fired and glazed.

I sent the client pictures of the glazes that were available and she chose angel eyes. Angel eyes is blue and some parts turn red depending on where the object is in the kiln. The client loves how the piece turned out! The last step was wrapping the tails with leather cord around the piece. This was difficult because the tails were so delicate and I didn’t want to break them. Everything worked out and I got it to work after a couple of tries. I really liked making this piece and the client really loved it!
