This past Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015, Zeta Omicron Kappa Pi held an interest social so that future members could interact with current ones and find out more about joining the club next year. There were lots of opportunities for socialization, including a cookie decorating station and crafts table. My personal favorite was the Zeta Jeopardy station, where Vice President Alyssa portrayed an excellent and enthusiastic Alex Trebek.
What is Zeta Omicron, you might ask?
Zeta Omicron is the Marywood chapter of the Kappa Pi International Art Honor Society. Yes, it is an art honor society, and not a traditional sorority/fraternity. Zeta is open to all art majors who are at the sophomore-senior level. You must have a 3.0 overall GPA with a 3.5 in your major to join.
Zeta is all about combining a love for art with a love for service. We take our art skills and use them to serve the campus community and beyond. One of my favorite projects this year was going to the Holy Family nursing home and helping the residents with a “Wine and Design” class. I loved interacting with the residents and they really enjoyed the fact that we were willing to spend some time with them.
One of our upcoming service projects is the Empty Bowl Project, led by our very own ceramics blogger Emma. We recently finished making almost 200 ceramic bowls to sell with some ice cream at the upcoming First Friday, so that we can raise money for organizations like Meals on Wheels.
Current students, you can e-mail zetaomicronkappapi@gmail.com for more information. Prospective students, keep the club in mind for future opportunities to get involved and help the community!
