Discussing Your Work

Before my Senior Show I was nervous about the questions I would be receiving from friends and family. Talking about your own work is hard enough but it is even more challenging when the viewer does not have a certain level of experience with the type of work you create. My paintings are non representational so when some people don’t know how to look at these things and they ask questions like “what is it?” or “why do you paint like this?” It is difficult to answer these questions but the key is patience. I think it is important to hear and see how the viewer looks at your work, as painful, awkward or exciting it can be at times. Overall the show was a great experience and I am so pleased with how my work looks out of the studio.
