This week I’ve finally been back at it crocheting! After much adieu and this project hanging over my head, I’m back to work. I have to face it and work on it. This experience has taught me a lot about accepting commissions. I’ll talk about all this shortly. First, I’ll show progress images.

This is the dragon at its very first stages during the winter. I had just put the eyes in and was debating on adding eyelids, as I did in the previous dragon (on a much larger scale) shown below:

The next step in the dragon making process was finishing up the body. In March, I came back to the project in between school pieces. I finished the body portion, and then didn’t touch the project:

Until now! Over the past week I’ve finally resumed work on this little friend. I kept stalling and putting it off as the project kept gettin’ delayed. I felt bad because I took on too many commissions at once over the winter and this one completely fell to the wayside. In my guilt, I continued to delay progress to put the fact of it out of my mind. But I need to learn from this experience. From now on, if it is during the school year or I already have another job or multiple commissions, I need to only take one at a time and be realistic about my timeframe. I’ll always prioritize my classes because it is more important that I succeed in those. I hope this advice can also help others who are struggling to balance their schoolwork with artwork. Schoolwork is more important 10 times out of 10. Commissions can always be done after the school year.

So, how is the dragon coming along? So far, so good. I crocheted the fins on his cheeks and his back spikes as well as his horns. I’ve sewed on the fins and the spikes so far. The horns will be added on once they’re stuffed up.

Today, I began to sew the arm of the dragon. So far, the area I have is the upper arm and elbow, seen in the right-most image. The arm will continue on both sides.

I’m sure I’ll update in the next one with progress on this, and the KPN logo in the next entry. For now, I’ll show a little friend I saw today outside.
