Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend my first convention, Awesome Con in Washington D.C. The convention aims to showcase a variety of geek culture ranging from comics, games, TV, movies, and more. During this past weekend, the convention featured The Lord of the Rings actors, Doctor Who actors, and a range of other talent. The convention also hosted an assortment of artists. One who caught my attention was Sarah Miller.
Miller’s artwork can be described as falling under the genre dark fantasy or dark surrealism. What stood out to me about this artist is their ability to use contrast throughout their work. They have a tendency to use the grayscale with a pop of color or monochromatic palettes with, again, a range in lights to darks.
This piece which initially caught my eye features one of Miller’s original characters, Crow, who is a part of Miller’s webcomic Crow & Arrow. The webcomic is currently being worked on, but if you’re curious about following the story prior to publication you can check out Miller’s patreon!

Miller also creates fanart that features creations from anime, gaming, and popular media. I decided to purchase this piece based on Castlevania. It is simply a fun interpretation of the main cast of characters and well interpreted by Miller.
In case you needed any more reason to check them out, Miller recently added a gorgeous playmat to their collection. I am very happy with my purchase of this playmat! Personally, I use it for not only tabletop gaming but as a mouse pad for PC gaming.

Please make sure to check out Sarah Miller who can be found on a variety of social media as well as their website! They are very active as they are planning to attend more conventions in the future as well as working on their previously mentioned webcomic.
If you are interested in Awesome Con itself, don’t worry. The convention will be held again around March 8-10, 2024 in Washington D.C.
