Growth

The year has ended and there is one thing I’m striving for in 2020, growth. I will work towards my personal, spiritual, and artistic growth this year. The year is full of endless possibilities and opportunities and I’m going to try my best to take advantage of it all.

My entry for the Speedball New Impressions Printmaking Competition encompasses my goal for 2020. It is a hand intertwined with the roots of a tree. The tree represents the growth that is in my hands at the start of a new year.

As I’ve mentioned before I’m not the best drawer but I’m very proud of the sketch I made of my hand. The print will not show my whole hand, as the three will be covering some of it but I still wanted to share the original sketch with you.

I used the graphite transfer paper so I would not have to redraw everything on the linoleum but it didn’t work out too well.

In the end I went over what I could see with a pen and used the original sketches as a reference while I drew all the details in the linoleum.
