Hey y’all! So it has been a while since I posted on this blog, and I sincerely apologize. Lately, life has had a lot of ups and downs, but overall I am back to share one of my favorite holidays of the year, which many do not know about. July 28th and 29th mark Peru’s independence from Spanish forces, and to celebrate this occasion, I wanted to talk about some famous Peruvian artists who should be mentioned, of course, to celebrate this holiday.

José Sabogal was a Peruvian painter, muralist, and educator who was part of the Indigenous movement, where he went to areas like Cuzco and got most of his inspiration from there. His works really defined the daily lives of Andean people, and he is celebrated for his works.

Another artist who was known in Peruvian history was known as Tilsa Tsuchiya Castillo. She was a printmaker and painter who loved to envision Peruvian myths and legends. her works addressed issues of gender and identity and her works involve Surrealism. Her artwork was included in Indianapolis and Brazil. She has won prizes for her works and she is also celebrated for her works and holidays like these are a great opportunity to celebrate artists who helped shape the country either it is of myths or the people who make the culture.
