Let’s Bowl!

Hello Everyone! This past week I completed what is the end of the spring 2020 semester. I am grateful for all of the support I received from my Professor’s and classmates over the semester. Unfortunately the end of the semester was taken away from us to due COVID-19 but I am grateful to have been able to still be in school learning.

With classes coming to an end this also mean I have finished up with final projects. For my three dimensional studio class we were given the assignment to create a form that is playful. I decide to create a game, particularly bowling. I decided to make a bowling alley because as a child my family would do nights out and sometimes that past time included bowling. I miss my family dearly during this pandemic but I understand that in order to have a better future we have to deal with these current conditions.

The bowling alley was constructed mainly out of recycled cardboard that I had on hand. I decided to make it as realistic as I could given the materials I had. I created a wood grain to look like hard wood floor that is the bowling alley, with a foul line out of Snapple bottle caps. The bowling pins were created out of Snapple bottles that were painted white with two red stripes to give the classic look of a bowling pin. I wanted to be able to actually play this with others, so I also created score boards in order to keep track of games.

Overall, I had a great time creating this work. It is awkward and quirky yet realistic in an overall sense. I have played it a few times and it had sparked joy into my life. It reminds me of family time, which I am sure everyone is craving at this point.
