As I was walking to my dorm with my friend and fellow blogger, Carolyn, we stumbled upon a bird. A very large bird, made out of garbage, to be exact.

The bird was a sculpture created by Cassie Kilheeney and Morgan Werner. It was a large Loggerhead Shrike, a bird that is native to the Pennsylvania area. However, according to a sign at the site of the sculpture, the Loggerhead Shrike, as well as over 40,000 other species are going extinct.

The sculpture was made out of the types of garbage that are responsible for the destruction of the homes of these animals.

I thought this was an awesome piece. It’s always nice when a piece of art has deeper meaning.

Obviously, it’s not awesome that the Loggerhead Shrike is going extinct. I hope we can save this species, and all of the endangered species as well.

Here are some handy tips on how to go green so you can help save species like the Loggerhead Shrine:

1. Recycle! Almost everything recycles, from cardboard to plastic to paper. Pay attention to what you throw out.
2. Reusable water bottles. Using reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles reduces the amount of waste you produce!
3. Try composting! Also, try only taking what you will eat. Less on the plate = less waste!
4. Conserve energy. Turn off the lights when you’re not home. And unplug anything that’s not in use, for that matter.
5. Clean commute. Try walking or biking instead of driving. Or, if you need to drive, try carpooling!
