Hi everyone! I fell in love with printmaking last semester when I took my first ever official Printmaking class, but I got a small taste of printing in high school, when I made my first ever print! It was just an experiment to see if I enjoyed it (I did!) and to see how easy it was to do. I found a square piece of rubber (not the traditional medium haha!) and carved a pineapple, my favorite fruit, into it! A little backstory on why I love pineapples:
I’ve always loved that pineapples are a sign of welcoming, and I love how they look, but the thing that solidified my love for them was an amazing TV show called “Psych”. In every episode, a pineapple makes a special appearance, and it was like a fun little game trying to find the pineapple in each episode! If you haven’t seen the show, I highly recommend giving it a try! It’s been off the air for a few years now (sadly) but you can find every season on Amazon Prime Video!
Okay, back to my print! After I finished carving my pineapple into the rubber, I realized I didn’t have any ink, and actually had to use acrylic paint to make my prints! It worked out okay, but it definitely would have been better if I had the right tools and actually knew what I was doing!
I remember how much I loved creating this print, and would love to see what it would look like if I were to redo this idea using the knowledge I’ve gathered from this past year! Maybe I’ll do a new version and post my finished product here! Stay tuned 🙂
