Philly Street Photography

This week after returning home for spring break I went downtown for Philly’s annual Flower Show and photographed there as well as in the surrounding area. I really enjoyed playing with color in this set of images, including some cross processing in Lightroom Classic. Just before break I bought a two pack of disposable cameras for my color photography class (ART 318), and I have been documenting my time home during break with one of the disposables. I started this documentation while in the Flower Show and have been continuing it since and will hopefully have some good images to share here in a few weeks!

While there’s four different editing styles going on in this group of photos, I love what’s happening in each of them. In the two with the various signs I chose to use cross processing to bring out the feeling of nostalgia as well as a faded film look given the subject matter and how old some of the signs themselves were. For the more architectural shots in the middle row I used a mixture of cross processing as well as subtle color grading to more precisely control the colors. The colors were very indicative of the lighting at the time they were taken. It was the first day after the time change due to daylight savings and I had realized that at that time it would have been dark the day before. I’ve really been enjoying it being light out for longer and this was a fun way of capturing that as well as taking some time to appreciate it.
