Hi everyone! I hope you’ve had a great week. This week I am going to talk about my third project from my Advanced Illustration and Advertisement class.
This project consisted of photographing an object in a completely dark room with your only light source being a LED light. For my LED light I used the flashlight on my Iphone.
At first I didn’t know what to photograph for this project so I pondered for a few days until I had an idea come to me while I was reading a book, something I’ve found myself doing more often due to quarantine. The idea come to me because I tend to read books that have dark themes in them.
I then looked through my book shelf to find some books that were connected around a dark theme. Once I found a good set of books that I was happy with, I started to stack them. I staggered them so that all the titles could be seen when I shined the LED light of my flashlight on them.
Once I have them stacked in a way that I was happy with I set up my camera. I had to look through my emails to find the settings that my professor sent us. He wanted our ISO to be 640 and a shutter speed of at least 15 seconds.
I placed my camera on some of the extra books that I pulled from my bookshelf because I didn’t have my tripod close by. After I had my camera set up I turned the flashlight on my phone on, then shut the lights off in the room I was photographing in so I didn’t bump my camera in complete darkness.
I took around 50 photographs to get the one I liked best. Each of the titles of my books reflected light in a different way, so I had to be careful where I positioned the light and on what book titles I put the emphasis of light on. Here is the final result of the project.

That’s all for this week! Stay Safe! Stay Healthy! I’ll talk to you all next week!
