SACI

I am so excited to announce that a few weeks ago I was accepted to study at SACI in Florence, Italy for 5 weeks this upcoming summer. The program will run from May to June. One of Marywood’s painting professors, Ryan Ward, will be attending SACI for this late spring term as well to teach a painting course! I plan to take Ryan’s painting class (since I’ve never had one of his classes here in Scranton) and a Renaissance Art History course! I am completely thrilled.

Ponte Vecchio

I visited Florence quickly my junior year of high school with a group of students and teachers. I only got to spend two short days in this wonderful city. I didn’t get to experience any of the artwork I would now be drooling over.

Some of the pieces I’m most excited to see during my stay:

  1. The Birth of Venus – Sandro Botticelli
  2. David – Michelangelo
  3. The Medici Palace – Michelozzo di Bartolomeo
  4. Allegory of Spring – Sandro Botticelli
  5. Pieta – Michelangelo
  6. Portraits of the Duke and Duchess of Urbino – Piero della Francesca
  7. Tribute – Masaccio
  8. The Duomo – Filippo Brunelleschi

I vividly remember the Duomo and how it took my breath away. It is the only work of art on this list that I have already seen. I can’t wait to return and be able to take it all in with new eyes. After studying the way the dome was built I will visit it again with newfound respect and awe.

Words cannot express how grateful I already am for this opportunity and the trip hasn’t even begun yet!
