This week has personally been all centered around preparation for Marywood’s annual Senior Exhibition. It has been spent putting portfolio’s together, wiring paintings, typing labels, and more. It is something that I thought I had been preparing for this whole year. I then realized every artist in this show has been preparing for this since the start of their undergraduate careers at Marywood University. It is an accumulation of our experience in the arts these past four years in which we were able to be exposed to different mediums and techniques as well as develop a sense of our own style. This can be seen through the progression in the portfolios displayed.
Between the two art buildings on campus, the Insalaco Center for Studio Arts and the Shields Center for Visual Arts, there are an array of works that are separated by the various art concentrations of the seniors. One space, the Mahady Gallery, shows the most diversity of all the galleries, as there you will find one piece from every senior art major on display. The Opening Reception includes refreshments and live music. On this day Marywood’s art buildings are alive in action with visitors, families, friends, and fellow artists walking around from building to building, gallery to gallery, and art piece to art piece. I remember attending the Senior Exhibition every year leading up to now and cannot believe I am actually one of the artists exhibited.
I am so fortunate to be part of an exhibition that includes so many talented artists for this 2016 graduating year. I am even more fortunate in the fact that Marywood is able to provide such great facilities such as on campus galleries and receptions that make this exhibition a truly special and classy event! If you are around the area and would like to attend this long awaited event for Marywood’s Art Department, please attend the opening reception this Saturday, April 16th, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It is going to be a great day full of art!
