Student Spotlight: Matthew Barletta

Hello dear readers, Sephora here! October has passed so quickly but I can’t wait to experience November as it is my birthday month! I’m feeling great and I hope you all feel blessed during this month of gratitude!

Now to the content! Today I am excited to introduce someone who deserves to be hyped up into infinity. He is extremely talented and I adore his artwork as he is wonderful at drawing animals. He’s in my basic drawing class and his pencil work is so soft it could be a cloud!

Before I could ramble on and on, it’s time to introduce…

Matthew Barletta!

A freshman Painting major, Matthew is a talented artist with a love for drawing animals!

Major: Painting

Graduation Year: 2027

I am majoring in Art because…

As a young kid, I loved expressing myself through illustrations and making comics of Spongebob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Skylanders. From middle school onward, my desire to create only increased. I decided to major in art at Marywood to improve my skills and develop myself as an artist personally.

The kinds of things that inspire me are…

I am inspired by musical artists such as Hoizer, PVRIS, and Under The Rug. These indie folk influences define a part of me that shows through within my art.

My favorite art class so far was…

I adore all of my art-related courses, one of my favorites being 2D Color and Design taught by Professor Lilli. I love experimenting with new styles and techniques from different artists and applying them to my own.

When I am not in class…

When I’m not in class, I teach dance at my sister’s dance academy, work at a local restaurant on the weekends, and create personal artwork in my spare time.

The coolest thing I have done at Marywood so far was…

One of the coolest things I’ve done at Marywood was meeting people who have similar aspirations and troubles as I have regarding the transition into college.

When I graduate…

When I graduate, I want to have my own business and sell my work. It’s nearly impossible to know what I’ll be doing until then, but as long as I’m successful in my practice and experiencing the world I’ll feel accomplished.

I would recommend the Art program at Marywood because…

I recommend the Art program at Marywood because it allows you endless opportunities and the ability to discover yourself through art in all mediums.

What excites me most about Art is…

What excites me most about art is the freedom to express yourself and to have it influence your means of expression, travel, and overall life quality.

Bonus Question! If one song would describe you, what would it be?

“Wasteland, Baby!” by Hoizer loosely describes me, or any of his songs in particular. This song, however, is about falling in love in a state of catastrophe. I really enjoy the apocalyptic feel he presents in this piece to relate to a state of bliss.

Wonderful pieces made by Matt!

I have had a wonderful time getting to know Matt and have started listening to Hoizer ever since he introduced me to the artist! It’s always wonderful to collect new interests from others.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this week’s Student Spotlight. Thank you for reading!
